Adhesive capsulitis, another name for frozen shoulder, causes discomfort and stiffness in the shoulder joint. Typically, signs and symptoms start out mildly before getting worse. Symptoms normally improve over the course of one to three years. The likelihood of acquiring frozen shoulder increases when a shoulder must be kept immobile for an extended amount of time. This could occur following surgery or an arm break. \ Exercises designed to increase range of motion are used to treat frozen shoulders. Injections of numbing agents and corticosteroids are occasionally used as a kind of therapy. Rarely is arthroscopic surgery required to release the joint capsule and allow for greater mobility. Recurrence of frozen shoulder in the same shoulder is uncommon. However, certain people, often within five years, can get it in the opposite shoulder.
